Resumen de la charla

Clinical documentation needs to be fine-grained to truthfully represent the history, development, and treatment of a patient. In electronic patient records, most information is however only available in free-text documents such as findings reports or discharge summaries.  These documents are often characterized by idiosyncratic terminology, spelling and grammar errors, and a lack of grammatical structure. The automated extraction of information encoded in free text documents and their mapping to controlled domain vocabularies represents a major challenge. We report on an experiment in which we combine several natural language processing methods in order to annotate discharge summaries from a Brazilian University Hospital by SNOMED CT codes.
